Idlenet - my next game, an idle/incremental
merging game made with LÖVE in lua.
 |
---|
(almost 500 commits now since starting the repo in 2022! and the game’s still not done!) |
boring work continues, but something i can show is an updated colour palette,
based off of the old macintosh 8bit palettes. the colouring was due for another
refactoring since it didn’t support theming. with how it’s implemented now, it
should be fairly trivial to implement custom themes for the game. also check out
how less flat the game looks now, almost like it is its own program now :)

aside from the game’s logo (still TBD/subject to change), all of the UI
elements including the gradients are drawn with love.graphics
calls. I may
have been overusing the gradient technique first outlined in the first Idlenet
log, but I think it looks good. i may look
into adding a dithering effect for the main panel background color, but it will
probably look like shit when its not at exact integer scaling
- a lot of the midgame is being smoothed out now and the game is getting very
close to having source available
- since the beginning of this year I have been planning out the scope of some
late-end game systems while also refactoring a lot of the codebase before I
go all in on midgame mechanics and balancing.
- the next devlog after the resolution one I write will probably be some
maths-heavy detailing of game balance or really dumb formulas.
I finally got around to making my own colorscheme for neovim, which i have
been using for almost a year now (the first commit to my nvim config repo is
from may 2024). well it’s not really my own since it’s just a port of a vs code
theme that i like called sema. check it out on

games
- Hitman: World of Assassination trilogy (2023, stealth/puzzle)
- i have done some really goofy SOSA (suit only, silent assassin) runs on my
youtube
channel in
a clown suit
- freelancer, the roguelite mode added to the trilogy in 2023, is probably one
of the best updates/additions to any game I’ve played. it doesn’t feel like
many roguelites or whatever was being yapped about in the post about
treatmills, it feels oddly natural, and perfectly expands
on the amazing levels of the trilogy. it demands mastery of the levels and
quick adaptation when the game throws a crazy objective at you.
- Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves (2025, fighting) evo japan hype got me
fiending for a decent 2d fighter I can play where i can just queue up and get
a match within a minute or two. surprisingly fun, but the price is really
steep. AAA prices for a ps3 era game in terms of features outside of core
game mechanics (i am inevitably going to write a post about this). i haven’t
played street fighter 6 (2023) in over a year so my 2d game is horrible
- Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. (2025, fighting) im so 3d fighter starved we go 20
years back in time
- Clone Hero/YARG (2021, rhythm) we love our plastic guitar games here dont we
folks? yarg’s timing engine got me back into playing gh again. turns out im a
fraud after 15+ years of playing GH3/CH, but consistently playing yarg
unsurprisingly has improved my accuracy and I can get a 90% on buckethead
jordan on the engine (compared to like 95-97% on CH)
- Dark Souls: Remastered (2018, action) fourth playthrough now? finishing up
the lord souls with a great scythe before starting a seamless
coop run
check out my backloggd
listening
- billy woods latest album has some of the best
hip hop production i’ve heard in years to go with some of the darkest lyrics.
his most complete album yet in a discog full of amazing work
★★★★
- what i love about his lyricism is that it is very grim yet blunt. the
raps encapsulate a certain gloomy feeling that i feel is not often
captured well in hip hop; an impending sensation and never seeing the
light at the end of the tunnel.
- insane beats from preservation,
el-p(!!!!)1, messiah
muzik and
alc. likely my album of the year
- MIKE - pinball II also just dropped
with tony seltzer, mike is on a generational run
- casiopea’s mint jams live album
- THE UNSEEN
- a lot of 70’s king crimson
thank you to robert fripp for holding the KC discog hostage for so long for
me to start self-hosting my music collection
watching
- the rehearsal s2
- reno 911
- curb
